Objectives of the training:
•Understand the FLAC2D/ FLAC3D numerical approach and the types ofproblems it can solve•Know how to manipulate the FLAC2D/ FLAC3D user interface to access andinterpret results•Follow the recommended solution procedure to simulate a simple case
During the ITASCA Symposium, we are launching ITASCA’s Mining Analysis Toolbox (IMAT), which is a FLAC3D v9 pre- and post-processor developed explicitly for underground and open pit mine-scale applications.
IMAT:
In parallel to the Symposium, ITASCA is offering a two-day immersive, hands-on workshop to enable you to start working with IMAT.
The registration fee for this workshop is CND$200 + 13% GST, which includes coffee breaks and lunch. Registrants will be provided with free FLAC3D and IMAT web licenses valid for one-week prior to the workshop and two-weeks afterwards.

Gys Basson (Numerical Modeler, Software Engineer, and Seismologist) with ITASCA Australia has over 15 years of experience in the research and development of computational tools for modelling rock mass behavior in deep hard rock underground mines.
He has implemented several numerical solvers involving the Boundary Element Method, Finite Element Method, Discrete Element Method, Material Point Method and successfully used these tools to address a wide range of real 3D mining-related research projects. These include examples of simple stress-strain modelling to more advanced coupled hydro-mechanical problems such as hydraulic fracturing preconditioning. He is also an experienced mine seismologist and understands the inner details of a mine's seismic system, network design, waveform processing, source mechanism analysis, hazard assessment, blast reentry, TARPs, and ground motion analysis.
What Sets IMAT Apart?
Modern & Intuitive Interface: No scripting required! IMAT boasts a sleek, user-friendly design that simplifies the process of building, solving, and post-processing large-scale mining problems.
Bridging the Gap: IMAT pioneers the fusion of advanced seismic data integration and numerical modeling. We've seamlessly combined the robust FLAC3D solver with a state-of-the-art seismic data analysis tool.
Everyday User-Friendly: Our software was meticulously designed with "simplicity" as the guiding principle. IMAT effortlessly introduces advanced geotechnical and seismological concepts, making it accessible to everyone.
Key Features at a Glance
Unlock the full potential of IMAT during our exclusive hands-on training workshop running parallel to the conference. Here's a sneak peek into what awaits you on each day:
Day 1: June 3 - Introduction to IMAT: Combining Seismology and Numerical Modeling
The integration of Seismology and Numerical Modelling presents a synergistic approach for acquiring a comprehensive understanding of subsurface geological conditions. Presently, mining operations frequently necessitate the expertise of external consultants to navigate the interface between these two disciplines. During this session, our objective is to dispel this prevailing misconception by elucidating seismological principles in a straightforward manner.
Agenda Highlights:
Day 2: June 4 - Using IMAT to Build and Post-process Mine Scale Models
